How to make the Creamy Garlic Parmesan Penne Pasta Recipe 🧄🧀

Ingredients (Serves 4)

  • 12 oz (340g) penne pasta

  • 2 tbsp olive oil or unsalted butter

  • 4 cloves garlic, minced

  • 1 cup heavy cream

  • 1 cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese

  • 1 cup mushrooms, sliced (optional but recommended)

  • ½ cup chicken or vegetable broth

  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning

  • Salt & black pepper, to taste

  • Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish).

Instructions how to cook creamy penne pasta

Step 1: Cook the Pasta

  1. Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil.

  2. Add penne pasta and cook according to package instructions until al dente.

  3. Reserve ½ cup of pasta water, then drain the rest and set aside.

Step 2: Make the Creamy Sauce

  1. In a large skillet over medium heat, add olive oil or butter.

  2. Sauté garlic for 1–2 minutes until fragrant.

  3. Add sliced mushrooms and cook until soft.

Step 3: Combine & Simmer

  1. Pour in heavy cream and broth, then stir in Parmesan cheese.

  2. Add Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper.

  3. Let simmer for 4–5 minutes until the sauce thickens slightly.

Step 4: Toss & Serve

  1. Add the cooked pasta to the sauce, tossing to coat evenly.

  2. If the sauce is too thick, stir in a splash of reserved pasta water.

  3. Garnish with parsley and serve immediately.

Cooking Tips for the Perfect Penne

  • Use Fresh Parmesan: Pre-grated cheese can make the sauce grainy — always grate fresh for the creamiest texture.

  • Don’t Overcook the Pasta: It will continue cooking in the sauce, so aim for slightly underdone when boiling.

  • Add Protein: For a heartier meal, toss in grilled chicken, shrimp, or crispy bacon.

  • Make it Healthier: Swap heavy cream for half-and-half and add steamed broccoli or spinach.
